I have been wanting to change the direction of this blog for a long time. I really enjoy "hosting" a blog, small and unread though it may seem. It is a bit of a hobby -- a creative release, if you will, for me. In my younger years, I had even considered being a writer by trade. Somehow, I ended up with science degrees, owning a retail business and being a work at home mom, with detours in higher education, the meat processing business and the federal government.
There are family members that stop by from time to time to read our news, and though most do not leave comments, there is daily traffic. That being said, I have decided to take a more structured approach to this blog, with (hopefully) more universal appeal. There will be occasional family news, but for the most part, posts will focus on daily activities and tips that will help any busy mother and family, intermingled with insights on faith, life and FUN. Though I won't post daily, I will try to post 2-3 times per week. I hope to do an occasional giveaway -- probably monthly -- so I hope you will comment to let me know how I am doing and if you like my posts!
Here's a little rundown of what this new direction will entail. Each day of the week will have a theme/subject:
Super Sunday (or Souper Sunday...or Super Sundae!): Sundays are fun days for our family, and we try to keep things simple -- but special. Lots of Sundays, we rent a movie, or go to the movie theater. Some Sundays are catch up days, and lots of laundry and yardwork gets done. Other Sundays we spend with extended family, eating a large meal together and visiting. Whatever the case, we enjoy our time together and it is always a great day, that usually involves a nap. So on these days, I will post a movie review, a favorite soup recipe that we enjoy, a favorite ice cream/sundae recipe, or a homekeeping post.
Meal Plan Monday: This will almost always be a weekly post. I will share our meal plans for the week, along with recipes, if available. I have found that planning out my week in meals and doing the grocery shopping before the week starts makes a huge difference in keeping our family on schedule and things running smoothly.
Tasty Tuesday: Tuesday's posts will feature either a favorite recipe or a new recipe that I have tried.
Wild Card Wednesday: For us, Wednesdays are our "hump day" -- from there it's all downhill. We look forward to Wednesdays because it signals a peak of the week's "busy-ness." We have pizza for dinner on the living room floor, and we look forward to a slower Thursday and Friday. These posts could cover any subject matter -- from an inspirational theme -- to a funny story. Look forward to being surprised.
Thrifty Thursday: The general theme of this day's posts will be money saving. It may be a practice our family uses or it may be something I have heard or read about.
Fun Friday: Think "child friendly" -- this post will cover fun things for the family -- it may be a travel oriented post, fun family activities, family dining suggestions -- anything that is family based.
Sane Saturday: I don't think we ever have a week that is not crazy. Work, school, after-school activities and everything in our busy lives can take a toll. This post will focus on ways to keep the sanity amidst all of the craziness.
All posts will be organized under labels - or tags - and eventually I hope to implement a new layout that has tabs so that they are easy to access.
Thank you so much for keeping up with the Dettens thus far! See you next week!
