As much fun as our family had in Las Vegas, I was so glad to return home. "Relieved" might be a better word. I was nervous about such a long drive and being in such a large, crowded city with four small children.
We had many discussions with the kids about being safe, what to do if they got lost, and following our rules/obeying orders (since the reason for those rules/orders was to ensure their safety). The first day was the most difficult as the kids had to focus on staying and following close, and get used to the hotter climate and large crowds. They did great! I utilized a safety harness to keep Avery from straying too far away, and she didn't mind it. It really worked great, and after the first day, we didn't need it. The kids were instructed to keep their hands on the stroller (that either Sam or Avery rode in, depending on the time of day) and stay close!
When we returned to Hereford, for many trips to Wal Mart, they were in such a habit of having their hands on the stroller, that they would keep their hands on the cart. More than once, I have caught myself saying, "We're not in Vegas anymore!"
.....This also evidenced by school starting along with the daily grind of pickups, drop offs, lessons, meetings, homework, practices and everything that comes along with the school year! It has been a great school year, so far.
Up next: The Detten's go to the Fair!
