Actually, the first leg of the trip was long, and much of it was in the rain. We left in the afternoon and had a room reserved in Flagstaff, Arizona through hotels.com. Because we got "such a low rate," it was non-refundable.
By the time we got to Albuquerque at 8 p.m., I was ready to find a room there, but Dennis was not about to let that $69 go down the drain, and he drove through the night to arrive in Flagstaff around 2 a.m.
Fortunately, we gained 2 hours, and were able to get some sleep. We went to a wonderful Mass at St. Pius X. Awesome music.
Our original plans were to see the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam and drive on in to Las Vegas that day. We decided we had bitten off more than we could chew and chose instead to catch the Grand Canyon on another trip when we could spend more time there.
We really enjoyed seeing Hoover Dam, and it was a great break for the whole family. We parked and walked, and snapped some pictures.
I'm pretty sure the bridge we are driving under here as we are entering Hoover Dam is the bypass that is currently under construction
A man was kind enough to offer to take a picture of the whole family.
Another shot of the bypass bridge. Yikes!
That's one big dam!
Stay tuned for more posts about our trip!

These are really neat pictures! Can't wait to read and see more about the trip!
I have loved all the pictures and stories from y'alls vacation to Vegas. What an undertaking to drive all that way! I'm impressed - you have inspired me to hopefully do that someday with our clan. Looks like it was a fun family trip!
