Cracks in the Water

(Disclaimer: Some language/context may be offensive to the reader. Please keep in mind the words that come from a child's mouth may be the direct teaching of their father)

We just finished a grueling three weeks of swimming lessons. Rachael and Jack spent 1-2 weeks refining their skills; Avery, on the other hand, HAD to learn the basics. She attempted lessons last summer, when she was 3 years old. On the second day, when I went to pick her up, the lifeguard dumped a soaking wet, crying Avery in my arms and said, "Sorry, she's not ready."

So after being kicked out of lessons last year, we waited and tried again this year. After a week of little progress and little cooperation with the lifeguards, Avery had to repeat the lessons -- with me staying to watch. She did well since she knew I was watching. On the fourth day I had to be at the store since we were very shorthanded; when I went to pick her up, the lifeguards told me the following story:

It was time to go down the little slide, and Avery's head went underwater. She did not like this. When she came up, she cried, "Great! Now I have bacteria in my eyes because everyone's crack is in the water." ("crack" of course, was referring to a portion of the human anatomy). She also informed the lifeguards -- and me -- that she was "not a fan of swimming."

You should know that in the past, Dennis has warned the kids not to drink pool water because of the "crack" issue. Thank you, honey.

Needless to say, there are no pictures to go with this post.
