Science Fair is O-V-E-R

Thank goodness! This was just not the year for me to be helping with an optional school project! But Jack and Rachael really wanted to participate in the School Science Fair -- and I'm so proud that they took the initiative! When Jack is in 3rd grade it will be required and he will be graded, so this was good practice. We didn't start as far in advance as we needed to, but they both learned alot and enjoyed the experience. Rachael' project was making crystal ornaments with sugar and water. She was even asked what a molecule was during her presentation. Thank goodness we prepared for that question! She got Honorable Mention. Jack's project was how probes get into space -- basically a force/thrust experiment he did with a homemade balloon rocket. He really enjoyed his project, and learned about Newton's Third Law of Motion (every action has an equal and opposite reaction). He did not win a prize, but was 1st in my book for his enthusiasm! I took pictures of the kids with their backboards; Avery insisted on having her picture taken with Rachael's backboard -- I think mostly because it was yellow, which is Avery's favorite color...can you tell?
